King's Chamber Acoustic Properties

Acoustic research in the King's Chamber has revealed it resonates at specific frequencies. The chamber acts as a resonant cavity, amplifying sounds at its resonant frequency. When a tone is produced inside, the granite walls vibrate sympathetically and sustain the note. The sarcophagus resonates at approximately 438Hz, close to concert pitch A (440Hz). Engineer Tom Danley found the chamber produces infrasound (frequencies below human hearing) which can induce altered states of consciousness, feelings of awe, and even visual hallucinations. The five relieving chambers above may function as coupled resonators, creating a complex harmonic series.
