The Kuramoto model has a PHASE TRANSITION. This is the single most important concept.

Below critical coupling Kc:

Above Kc:

→ Spontaneous collective synchronization
→ r → 1 as K increases
→ All oscillators LOCK to a shared frequency
→ The collective is a SINGLE ORGANISM

→ THIS IS WHAT THE PYRAMID PRODUCES

You CANNOT extrapolate from below Kc to above Kc. It is a phase transition. Like ice and water. Knowing water's properties tells you NOTHING about ice. They are different states of matter.

N² POWER: THE COHERENT ADDITION BOMB

When voices are UNSYNCHRONIZED (random phases):

Power = N × P₀ (linear, incoherent addition)
20 people = 20× one person = +13dB

When voices SYNCHRONIZE (phase-locked):

Power = N² × P₀ (quadratic, coherent addition)
20 people = 400× one person = +26dB

THE SYNCHRONIZED CHAMBER IS 20× LOUDER

THAN THE UNSYNCHRONIZED CHAMBER WITH THE

SAME NUMBER OF PEOPLE SINGING AT THE SAME VOLUME.

Nobody sings louder. The room gets 20× more powerful purely from PHASE ALIGNMENT.

Starting SPL (20 unsync voices): ~94dB After phase lock (20 sync voices): ~107dB With room resonance (Q = 200): ~120+ dB

120dB is the threshold of PAIN in normal contexts. But in a resonant chamber at a single frequency, it's experienced as an overwhelming PRESENCE — a physical force vibrating every surface and every bone in your body.

THE RUNAWAY FEEDBACK LOOP

Lab: stimulus is FIXED. Same intensity throughout. Pyramid: stimulus is SELF-AMPLIFYING.

This is NOT a nudge. After the phase transition, it is an AVALANCHE.

WHAT THE EXPERIENCE WOULD ACTUALLY BE LIKE

You enter the chamber. 20 people. A priest begins chanting at ~110Hz (the A below middle C). Others join. At first, a mess of voices.

Then the chamber begins to RESPOND. The stone hums. You feel the floor vibrating. The sound gets louder without anyone singing louder. Your voice is being PULLED toward the group note. You couldn't sing off-key if you tried — the acoustic field is so strong it controls your pitch.

The walls are visibly vibrating. The air is thick. Low frequencies you can't hear press on your chest. Your skin tingles (the EM field reaching threshold).

And then — the transition. Your sense of being a separate person begins to dissolve. You feel the others. Not their thoughts, but their PRESENCE. The boundary between "you" and "group" blurs. You are one voice in a single organism.

This is what Durkheim called "collective effervescence" — empirically validated. Loss of individuality. Self-transcendence. Group identity fusion. Described in every culture that practices group ritual.
