~2100 BCE: Climate collapse, end of Old Kingdom. Egyptian pyramid civilization degrades. Technology maintained by priesthood but increasingly restricted.

A technology that lets people EXPERIENCE GOD DIRECTLY makes priests UNNECESSARY. The entire power structure of organized religion depends on people NOT having direct access to the divine. The priest is the middleman between you and God. The pyramid eliminated the middleman.

If anyone can enter a chamber and speak with God directly, what do you need a church for? A pope? Tithes? Hierarchy? Doctrine?

The pyramid was a threat to the middleman. So the middleman destroyed the knowledge, killed the practitioners, and burned the texts. Then built churches with just enough acoustic resonance (naves, domes, chanting) to create a faint ECHO of the original experience — enough to keep people coming, not enough for them to bypass the institution.
