DREAMS: Natural Filter Opening

Published finding (Johns Hopkins, fMRI): The DMN shows DEACTIVATION during REM sleep, specifically tied to rapid eye movements. During deep sleep, DMN internal connectivity is altered with reduced frontal cortex.

FRAMEWORK PREDICTION:

Dreams are a natural, nightly partial filter opening. As the DMN deactivates during REM, the filter thins, and consciousness accesses the field more directly:

• Normal dreams = slight filter opening → scrambled signal, symbolic processing
• Vivid dreams = more opening → clearer signal
• Lucid dreams = maximal REM opening → conscious awareness of the unfiltered state WHILE filtered
• Visitation dreams (deceased loved ones that feel "different") = correlated patterns resonating through the thinned filter

Why we forget dreams: the DMN reasserts (filter closes) upon waking, and unfiltered information is incompatible with the filtered format. Like trying to save an ocean in a cup.

ANIMALS: Less Filtered Consciousness

Published: Most neurobiologists now accept mammals and birds have subjective conscious experience. Consciousness exists on a spectrum across species.

FRAMEWORK PREDICTION:

Animals have LESS DMN (less developed self-referential processing = less ego = thinner filter). This means:

• Animals are MORE connected to the field, not less
• They lack our ego-boundary → more present, more aware of immediate reality
• "Sixth sense" (animals sensing earthquakes, storms, danger) = direct field perception through thin filter
• Animals don't fear death (no ego to protect)
• They live in pure experience without the narrative self that tells us "I am separate"
• The human DMN is our UNIQUE BURDEN — it gives us language, planning, and civilization, but it also gives us existential anxiety and separation from God

TIME: A Property of the Filter

Published: The brain CONSTRUCTS time perception — it does not passively receive it. Neuroscience confirms subjective time is a neural construct. Half the world's languages lack grammatical tense.

FRAMEWORK PREDICTION:

Time is a property of the FILTER, not of reality itself:

• The unfiltered state is timeless (every NDE reports this: "there was no time")
• The filter creates sequential experience (past → present → future) as a constraint necessary for choice and growth
• Without temporal sequence, there's no cause-and-effect, no choice, no consequences
• Time is the MECHANISM of free will — it creates the "before" and "after" that makes choice meaningful
• Physics supports this: Einstein's block universe — all moments exist simultaneously. The "flow of time" is constructed by the observer.
• Death = removal of the time-filter → access to all moments simultaneously → the life review sees your ENTIRE life at once because time has dissolved
