Gunung Padang — Southeast Asian Enigma
Gunung Padang in West Java, Indonesia, is a megalithic site built on a volcanic hill. Geological surveys by Danny Hilman Natawidjaja (2014) using ground-penetrating radar, seismic tomography, and core drilling revealed deeply buried constructed layers dating to 26,000-9,600 BCE. If confirmed, this would make it the oldest pyramid-like structure on Earth by a wide margin. The site contains columnar basalt arranged in geometric patterns, underground chambers, and evidence of multiple construction phases spanning thousands of years. The Indonesian government has classified it as a national heritage site. Its extreme age challenges fundamental assumptions about human civilization's timeline.
