Napoleon's Egyptian Campaign

Giza, Egypt (29.9792°N, 31.1342°E)

Detailed Account

Napoleon brought 167 scientists and scholars — the Commission des Sciences et des Arts — to systematically document Egypt's monuments. This produced the 'Description de l'Egypte,' which revealed the precision of pyramid engineering to the modern world. Napoleon himself reportedly spent a night alone inside the King's Chamber and emerged shaken, refusing to discuss what happened. When pressed on his deathbed, he said: 'No, you would not believe me.'
