Full Description

Johns Hopkins fMRI study: the Default Mode Network shows deactivation during REM sleep tied to rapid eye movements. During deep sleep, DMN internal connectivity is altered. Under the filter model: dreams are natural, nightly partial filter openings. As DMN deactivates, consciousness accesses the field. Normal dreams = slight opening (symbolic). Lucid dreams = maximal opening (conscious in the unfiltered state). Visitation dreams = correlated patterns resonating through thinned filter. Dream forgetting = filter reasserts on waking.
