The Mokattam Formation: A Single Limestone Slab Beneath All Three Pyramids

GEOLOGICAL FOUNDATION OF THE GIZA PLATEAU

The entire Giza Plateau is composed of a single continuous geological unit: the Mokattam Formation — Middle Eocene nummulitic marine limestone approximately 40million years old. This unbroken rock slab extends beneath ALL three major pyramids (Khufu, Khafre, Menkaure), the Great Sphinx, all satellite pyramids, and the entire necropolis.

DIMENSIONS AND PROPERTIES:

  • Plateau elevation: ~60metres above sea level
  • Bedrock thickness above aquifer: ~60m
  • Composition: Nummulitic limestone (containing fossils of Nummulites, coin-shaped foraminifera)
  • Unconfined compressive strength: 47-72 kg/cm²
  • Rock Quality Designation: 21-45%
  • Contains interbedded clay layers with high swelling potential (110-120% free swell ratio)

THE BEDROCK MOUND INSIDE KHUFU:

The Great Pyramid was deliberately built over a natural rocky outcropping that projects upward ~7-15m into the pyramid's base. This mound was incorporated into the core structure, reducing the amount of stone needed while strengthening the foundation. The top was leveled to within an astonishing 2.1 centimetres of perfectly horizontal across the entire 230m base.

KHAFRE'S ELEVATED BEDROCK:

Khafre's pyramid sits on a natural bedrock rise approximately 10m higher than Khufu's base level. This is why Khafre's pyramid appears nearly as tall as the Great Pyramid despite being 3.09m shorter (143.5m vs 146.59m). The builders deliberately chose this elevated position.

ACOUSTIC & ELECTROMAGNETIC IMPLICATIONS:

A continuous limestone slab connecting all three pyramids has profound implications for acoustic and electromagnetic wave propagation. Limestone is piezoelectric — it generates electrical charges under mechanical stress. The bedrock effectively creates a single resonant platform linking every structure on the plateau. Seismic vibrations from one pyramid would propagate through the shared bedrock to the others. If any pyramid generated acoustic or EM energy, the bedrock would serve as a waveguide distributing it across the entire complex.
