Herodotus Visits the Pyramids
Detailed Account
Greek historian provides the first detailed account of the pyramids, claiming 100,000 workers built the Great Pyramid over 20 years. He describes now-lost features including inscriptions on the casing stones. Herodotus also records that the priests told him the pyramids encoded astronomical knowledge — a claim largely dismissed until modern measurements confirmed mathematical constants encoded in the structure.
