Full Description

UVA Division of Perceptual Studies: "Peak in Darien" cases where NDErs encounter deceased relatives they did NOT know had died, or relatives they NEVER MET (grandparents who died before they were born), later identified from photographs. 138 cases (21%) in one study of 665 NDEs involved meetings with deceased persons. These cases cannot be explained by expectation-based hallucination — the experiencer had no knowledge the person was dead. UVA researchers call these "some of the most persuasive evidence for the survival of consciousness after bodily death." Under the filter model: correlated patterns (family bonds) persist in the field and are accessible when the filter breaks.
